The Relationship Between Entrepreneurship and the Social Sciences

Making the decision to pursue your own ideas and then turn them into a business is a highly satisfying pursuit. Entrepreneurship allows people to create careers that are in direct alignment with their values, such as helping others or protecting the environment, and thereby provide a physical and mental satisfaction that other careers can’t.

Entrepreneurship is a social phenomenon with complex interactions between human beings and the societal context that they live in, work, play and learn. In this article, we present the research on entrepreneurship education for non-business students and propose a synergetic framework to the existing research based on four dimensions of social learning – observational learning, the role of mentors and peers, the entrepreneurial ecosystem as a resource for social learning, and the role of institutions in influences on learning. We also discuss how this framework can be used more systematically to guide future research and development in entrepreneurship education. We also present a thorough bibliographic analysis, aided by VOSviewer, Bibliometrix and highlighting the most prominent authors and institutions as well as countries, seminars, articles and journals, as well as the most popular themes. This allows for a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the present state of the field. The analysis also gives information on future research areas and knowledge gaps.
